Why Air Sealing is important?
Adding insulation without air sealing is like wearing a thick winter jacket with the zipper open. What’s the point!? Air leaks allow conditioned air to bypass insulation, reducing overall performance.
Result: The insulation’s R-value (insulating power) drops significantly — leading to comfort issues, energy loss, and potential moisture concerns.

Can I Install new insulation over old?
Having old insulation professionally removed is often the first meaningful step in defending your home against rodent residue, bacterial growth, and moisture related issues. When insulation has been compromised, simply “topping off” over the existing material can trap contamination, conceal active problem areas, and limit your ability to address the root causes—air leaks, ventilation imbalance, and moisture pathways.

What does R-Value Mean in Insulation?
R-Value stands for resistance. Insulation is measured by its resistance to heat flow and temperature conduction. The higher the R-Value number the greater insulation can resist temperature conduction making a home much easier to heat or cool.
What R-value is right for me?
Insulation’s R-values can range from R-10 through R-60. In Virginia, the current building code for insulation is R-49 for attics, R-19 for exterior-facing walls, and R-19 for crawlspace floor joists. It is highly recommended that your home be insulated to meet these codes at minimum.
